A Long time ago

A long time ago, in a land far far away I wrote on my blog. But it kinda fell apart after wards and now I'm writing in here again. Currently I'm in Sri Lanka and having a blast with the warm weather and hanging out with friends. Nothing can compare to this but sadly there are two sides of a coin. Those ugly mosquitoes and the regular fever that goes through the country once in a while sums up those bad things, but this is a tropical country so we should accept it as is it.

There are a lot of things changing here. I found out that I grew 5 inches again (which I hoped that I was done with) and I also found out that the prices of stuff is too expensive when going on the budget set by your parents; sad story number two. And also that the 'humanity' the world goes on about is over exaggerated and downright stupid.

My precious... ice cube!!!

Having a habit of waking up in the middle of the night to drink water and staggering half-blind in the dark to the tap in the kitchen and almost drowning to quench the thirst is not something we are not used to. But having an urge to put that tasteful, glistening, beautifully transparent little cube into every single liquid that touches your mouth is a bit of a problem when having a midnight drink.

This was the seemingly humongous problem I encountered at midnight this Saturday. My newest addiction of the sweet and sour little water cubes gave me some quests to conquer during those two days.

My belated birthday treat followed by the fun time I spent at my friend's house was quest No.1. It was raining and cold, and when I asked for some iced tea with actual ice cubes I got some weird looks followed by comments about being a weirdo from my friends. But I had to keep my lovely ice cubes and my love for them, a secret. So I strengthened my mind to the comments about my mentality and sanity and drank the peach ice tea with my loves in it and ended up shivering.

And then the quest No.2 came up at the middle of the night to prove my love for the gorgeous ice cube.I harshly opened my light-less refrigerator, and groped around in the biting cold for my love, grabbed it and put some into the water and gently put the ice tray back and banged the fridge door close. So ended my quest No.2.

When I woke up in the cold morning of Sunday thinking of drinking some hot Ceylon tea I remembered my love, and then after chastising myself for forgetting my current inhuman obsession I filled up my cup of cola and drank with some lovely ice cubes. And so during the day I had to live with ice cola, ice water and sometimes just ice with all my heaters on.

Because of my secret obsession that existed for 24 hours, I put up with the beautiful ice cube and ate it, drank it, chewed it and even kept it in my mouth (as an experiment of seeing how long it takes to melt it). Then I had to part with my precious ice cube this noon and took the first gulps of normal water at the fountain. So my current love has been transferred to normal water from the ice cubes, as it had always been. So I guess it is true that you never forget your first love.

My firsts'

My first book.. i don't remember the first book i read.. but i remember reading archie comics live crazy when i was 13 or 14.. and then transferred all my reading ability to goosebumps, fear street, Jurassic park and sydney sheldon books, Harry Potter,Meg Cabot books and Lord of the rings . My fave books so far are 'Jurrasic park' and Lord of the rings.. haven't found anything to top those, not even Harry Potter.

I don't think anyone remembers their first movie.. i have a bad memory of those stuff.. my sister, since she's older always watched the 'mature' movies (she was only 2 years older.. oh well) and i snuck into watch them with her or irritated her until she promised me to give the movie to watch before slamming the door on my face. My fave movies are Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the black pearl. I like the sequels but the first is the best. The Lord of the rings trilogy is my favorite movie, and also 'Star Wars'. My parents took me to watch Jurrasic Park when I was 7 or 8 and had to leave the theater because I was terrified and had started to cry.

I didn't get into anime until I has 16.. I found a friend in a forum who read those things.. the younger dude told me he watched naruto and that it was cool. So to find something to do instead of studying for the exams and also to irritate mom i started to watch naruto and got hooked into it.. then after that it was browsing manga and anime and watching them. I like mangas better than anime. My fave mangas are 'Death Note', 'Naruto', (I'm hoping Itachi will miraculously come back to life), '07-Ghost' (good story line), D-grayman (so cool!) , and 'One Piece' (since it's SOOO much better than naruto and bleach)

I have to get back into the reading rave again.. I probably will when I go home and raid my mom's library.. can't go into dad's because.. actually he doesn't have anything interesting.. what a boring dad... geez

Home sweet home

My dream place to live in is Sri Lanka. Being my home country I know it the best and all my relatives and friends live there too. It's a bit boring and lonely here since I don't have my parents. Sri Lanka is really beautiful and nice, there's no winter and I hate winter and also Sri Lanka is enough for me.

There's lots of places to go for holidays and there's city life and also the country life for whatever preference people have. If anyone wants a cold climate 'Nuwaraeliya' is the perfect place since it's always cold and winter-y there.

But I'll probably live here for a while doing a job and then go to Sri Lanka. Money is worth a lot too :P

is one week even enough?????

The picture is the 'Sigiriya' mountain in Sri Lanka.

Okay.. first of all I am past my deadline for this blog.. and I have to apologize because i severely overslept..kinda.. I slept.. woke up and slept again because the bed was so comfy..

If I had one week to live.. first thing I would do is book a plane ticket (without thinking of the $2000 something price tag) home. Then I would go home and eat and sleep my way through jet lag.. which will take one or two days. Then for the remaining five days I will go on a trip around Sri Lanka with my friends, and I will drag every single one of them with me. I'm dying so I can be selfish for the last week of my life right?

I want to go around the world, but I think one week isn't enough to see the beauty of this world and I will die regretting the fact that I went to see the world but didn't have enough time to see everything.

Even though I'm from Sri Lanka there are loads of places I haven't seen and am dying to. Because of the war the regions the terrorists were in were closed off until this year when the land mines had been cleared off. The whole north side of the country was closed off for anyone who wasn't from there, and even people from the north didn't want to go and die in a bomb blast.

There's Trincomalee, a naturally made port for ships, as I've been told and the 'Nilavaly Beach' there is said to be the most beautiful beach in the world. There also 'Arugambe', it's a bay on the eastern side of the country and is really beautiful. We went there once but didn't get to stay long.

I want to go see 'Yapahuwa', it's one the last Sinhalese King's palaces and I want to climb the 1000 something stairs again. The view when you climb up is really gorgeous. I went there on my school trip once. You could actually sit on the throne! Or what's left of it anyways.

I want to climb 'Sigiriya' again too. It's a rock that shaped like a lion, which I fail to see no matter how many times I see it. But at the foot of the rock mountain the huge thing has two enormous carved paws and the stairs lead straight to the rock carved like the mouth of the lion.. it's super cool!

And most of all... I want to eat my mom's cooking again. Her 'buriyani', a sort of fried rice in Sri Lanka, and homemade chocolate cake are the best in the world! I miss it so much. And on the last day I want my dad to make his barbeque again, even if he keeps over cooking the meat it tastes good. And I'm going to scavenge my telescope and watch the moon, because I couldn't do it the last time.

And this is the list of things to do in my last week among the living.. then say hello to the ghost of me!

I know what you're thinking!!!!

If I had a superpower it would totally be mind reading. I know it's creepy and it violates human rights and stuff.. It's not like I'm going to be using it always.. maybe during an exam I'll use the power to get the answers from the brainiest kid in class or something (It won't be my fault if the kid wasn't thinking about the exam at all!! I think..) But most of all I want to know who is lying to me and who is not.

I've been having trust issues for a while and I know that a lot of people do. But it's getting really annoying when you can't even trust your own friends. I think I'm getting paranoid too, but most of the time my paranoia turns out to be actually true so I stick with it.

But I guess mind reading is a power most people feels disgusted or annoyed with. I know I wouldn't want to hang around someone if I knew that person is going to read my mind. Oh well I guess that makes me contradict myself but I would love to have that power. It'd be so awesome! :P

fears and tears

There's nothing that comes straight to my mind when concerning fears and tears. Except maybe being unemployed and washing dishes as my father suggests, or ghost stories (I didn't realize it was night when I watched 'Ghost Hunt' anime.. and it's seriously scary!), and I have a mild case of fear of snakes and 'dangerous' animals in face to face encounters of them.

Usually I don't actually keep my mind on the scary parts. I just ignore them. That's how I deal with most of the stuff, ignore and forget. So when there was a cobra in our backyard at home and mom was screaming and my little brother (the poor innocent soul) wanted to go see it, I was the one who was convinced to get a stick and do 'something'. What exactly my mother was expecting me to do, I had no idea. I was just as scared as she was, except I chose to ignore it while she didn't.

When my hip began to hurt badly and my dad said after checking the x-rays that my spine was angling, I chose to ignore the fear that I will end up like my cousin, who had the same genetic sickness and now she's paralyzed after too many mistakes in her spinal operations.

When I do actually get reduced to tears from my fears, I take one minute, cry and scream my heart out, and then again.. I ignore my fears.

Alice in underland?

The new 'Alice in wonderland' was a letdown.. I was so pumped up to watch the movie after reading the news and the huge buzz it made.. i thought it might be the next 'avatar' or something but damn.. it was surprisingly stupid..

Johnny Depp with his mad mad hat, Anna Hathaway with her floating and queenly act and Helena Bonham Carter as an evil queen were awesome! But the supposedly main character of Alice was so.. bland.. in her emotional outburst she looked like she was reciting a boring play in high school. The 3-D was good.. especially during the cliche last stand and speedy movements.. but I thought it would have a better plot..

And it was VERY un-realistic.. if we're going by the time frame showed in the movie rejecting a proposal and running off in the middle of the said proposal was blasphemy and you would be a social outcast before you even know it.. and the 'independent woman' theme was not in that time.. women were considered to be men's partners; staying at home, watching after the kids, cooking and tending to her husband's needs and that's all.. they were NEVER allowed to partake in business as far as I know and going to China all alone without an 'escort' was social suicide..

I can't believe I wasted $20 for that.. the only good thing in that movie was the cheshire cat and Mad Hatter.. *sigh*

The soil is red from the blood that has been spilled on this country

"The soil is red from the blood that has been spilled on this country" - Colonel Coetzee, 'Blood Diamond'.

"Blood Diamond" (2006)
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou, Jennifer Connelly, Arnold Vosloo, Michael Sheen
Directed by: Edward Zwick
Produced by: Len Amato, Benjamin Waisbren, Kevin De La Noy

"Blood diamond (also called a converted diamond, conflict diamond, hot diamond or a war diamond) refers to a diamond mined in a war zone and sold to finance an insurgency, invading army's war efforts, or a warlord's activity, usually in Africa." - Wikipedia.org

The movie 'Blood Diamond', resolving about the blood diamond mining, smuggling and exporting in Sierra Leone during the civil war in 1999 depicts the truth, or a version of truth that people who actually buy the diamond doesn't seem to know. The movie with it's gory and shocking blood spilling, intense war action, explanations of history and situations and brief romance of Danny Archer (Dicaprio) and Maddy Bowen (Connelly), is a good movie made of the truth that was seen in Africa during the nineties civil war.

The story starts with Solomon Vandy (Housou) who is a fisherman living with his wife and three children in an outskirt village; and he wants his son, Dia, to learn english to be able to go to college. One day the village is attacked by the rebel forces which kills or captures almost everyone in the village. Any strong man in the village was taken to a diamond mining field, where Solomon ends up next and his family escapes.

While mining in a shallow river Soloman finds himself a very rare and large pink diamond. When he was trying to hide it the army forces attack the mining facility and he's taken to jail. While in jail one of the rebel officers who had seen Soloman trying hide the diamond announces to everyone in jail that Soloman has hidden the blood diamond.

And this is heard by Danny Archer (DiCaprio) who was caught when trying to smuggle diamonds across to Liberia. When he hears this he bails out Solomon and gets out too. Soloman finds a job and Archer tries to settle his muck up of the last set of diamonds when he meets Bowen, an american journalist trying to find the truth of diamond industry and Van de Kaap company which deals heavily in diamonds. Archer refuses to be a source for her and they part company.

Archer then finds Soloman and tries to convince him to tell him where he hid the diamond, during that conversation the army and rebels have a showdown and they escape together with a pact that Soloman will tell where the diamond is if Archer helps him find his missing family.

After escaping Archer tries to get Bowen's help to find Soloman's family. Bowen helps him in exchange for information on Van de Caap and Archer's name as a source. After Soloman sees his family in a refugee camp in Guinea he tells Archer where he hid the diamond and the three of them decide to go to Colonel Coetzee, the man who had taken in Archer and introduced him to diamond smuggling.

During their way to Colonel, along with some other journalists they get attacked by more rebels and are forced to flee. Also during this time we get what Dia is up to with the rebel forces; with drugs, alcohol, violence and brainwashing Dia doesn't stand a chance. Soloman, Archer and Bowen end up in a house that aids children taken from the rebels and with the help of the teacher they end up going to the mercenary forces led by Colonel.

There Bowen gets information from Archer and their romance intensifies but Bowen ends up leaving. Archer learns that Colonel plans to attack Sierra Leone to take back control. This was actually true; it refers to the 1995 hiring of South African security firm 'Executive Outcomes' by the government of Sierra Leone.

Archer decides to get the diamond on his own and with Soloman, they escape. They trek their way to the mine Soloman worked in. They reach the mine and find out that it's under rebel force control. Soloman finds his son and Archer attacks the rebel oss but Colonel and his forces jump in too. After a three-way fighting Soloman finds the diamond but Archer gets shot. After another two different fights where Soloman convinces his son to regain in innocence and Archer kills the Colonel. After contacting his pilot Archer manages to get them a ride.

But Archer is unable to make it to the helicopter due to his wound and tells Soloman and Dia to go and hands Soloman the diamond back. After the helicopter leaves Archer calls Bowen and asks a last favor to help Soloman and dies. Soloman travels to London where he sells the diamond with Bowen's help and reunites with his family. Bowen writes her article with Archer's information and Soloman describes his experience in Kimberly, South Africa. This speech is referred to a real situation where the 'Kimberley Process Certification Scheme' was made; which seeks to certify the origin of diamonds in order to curb the trade in blood diamonds.

The movie is compelling and heartfelt but I find some situations and connections to be very cliche and too 'movie-like' to be only coincidence. But after I watched this movie I got to know about the diamond trade. DiCaprio's acting as a me-first mercenary is very good and Hounsou as a father-first is very convincing too. Connelly doesn't appear much in the movie but her steadfast approach as a journalist out to get her sources help out both Archer and Solomon; Colonel (Vosloo) acts as the best evil man.

What's so good about spring break?

Being a college international student in Kirksville and being broke on top of it sucks really REALLy badly.. my ramen ran out and I'm currently trying to live off fruit loops because I'm too lazy to go to wal-mart and buy something.. i hate cooking because my apartment will start to stink and I really don't want to keep the door open for half an hour.

And I think I'll die from cholesterol like my dad says because I don't exercise but keep eating fatty food. He's the one who suggested I drink OIL to get some meat on my bones! But alas.. I think I probably have some disorder that keeps me from getting fat.. but as one of my cousins said all the fat will probably come and bite me in the near future and bloat me to look like Aunt Marge from HP (I really hope not.. if that happens I promise myself to run a mile everyday!)

I have numerous essays to write and three movies to watch and write a critique about.. two historical movies and the critique for journalism (I don't mind it because I like Blood Diamond; but I really don't want to watch 'Last of the Mohicans'! T_T)

And I'm slacking off on my trig h/w.. again.. and I have too many bad memories of MML.. I really need to find a hobby that will get me off the damn computer chair before I go even more blind from staring at the laptop screen; or god forbid I die from too much sleep. (I managed to sleep 24 hrs non stop! A new record!)

P.S- Any Naruto readers there? Sasuke is so DUMB!!! If he's supposed to be so smart and powerful he should think with his brain at least once in his lifetime! I just hate hate hate hate him!!! And that makes me hate Naruto too.. going after him like a damn lost puppy.. not to mention Sakura! URGH!!!

I have you on my hitlist!!!

Anyone who has read my previous posts about MML and how much I hate it must know of my semester long hatred of it. I admit some of it was because of my own ignorance and reluctance to do trigonometry homework; BUT as I have heard from my fellow sufferers from this dam* hybrid of mathematics and internet MML IS HELL!!!!

I heard that some of them print out the assignments and does it by hand and then put the answers on MML later. I thought of trying it because MML was getting on my nerves so much. But I'm a very lazy bum and don't want all that troublesome work. So I'm going to keep cursing MML while doing homework and eating chocolate. (No more juice because I ruined my last beloved laptop after spilling juice on it)

And I hope to every god that Winona university doesn't use MML for calculus because I have to take it next semester and I WILL NOT do my homework on MML. EVER!!
(And Caples is so nice he'll let me do the homework after it closes down after the time runs out and I slack off. But i don't think there's another math professor like him... maybe he should transfer to winona and teach Calculus so I can get an A.)

And whoever made MML, beware because when I find you by some unfortunate karma on your part I will do something very unpleasant to you for the suffering I'm going through!

Flashforward to five years!

Currently I have no idea about what to do in the future.. and from the way I'm going it looks like in five years I will be in Sri Lanka!!!!! YAAYY!!
(I do that because I haven't been home for two years!!)

I'm starting my third year of college this August and technically I only have two more years to graduate. But from my current standing of number of credit hours I'll have to study for three years probably. And I'll be 24 years old! -_-

I plan to go home after I graduate; and find a job here or in Sri Lanka. So in five years I'll be (hopefully) employed and taking a vacation, or employed and living in my hometown.

I'm in a fork road of my future about whether to live here or to go back home. If I'm going to do a job in the USA I want to live in a city! (sorry Kirksville). But I want to live in Sri Lanka too! But I'll probably decide on it when the time comes, hopefully. `

the start of the great nineties

I was born on April 1990 and that year was the start of the last decade before the second millennium and also the start of some significant events (like me being born for an example!).

This year was the start of many changes in the world. In music, economics, politics, technology and so on. I'll start with music. The new music of electronic dance music, teen pop, Eurodance and most importantly this was when hip hop and alternative rock became mainstream music. Also during this year The Rolling Stones first ever tour of Japan started, The Byrds reunited after 25 years, Pearl Jam play their first song as a band and the first and last police musical (I don't know how THAT works) 'Cop Rock' premiers on television.(And was a massive failure)

Songs released in 1990 > Madonna -'Vogue', Mariah Carey 'Vision of love' (Just how OLD is she?!), MC Hammer -'U can't touch this' (I love this song!!) and Sinéad O'Connor- 'Nothing compares 2 U'.

In television during 1990 'Mr.Bean' (can't get enough of that show) premiered on ITV, as well as the shows 'The Bradys' on CBS and 'Law and order'. The massively popular 'The Beverly Hills 90210' started.

Top TV shows in 1990 > 'Cheers', '60 Minutes', 'Roseanne', 'A different world', 'The Cosby Show'

When talking about political events and economy and stuff there were many wars that started in that year. Like 'The Persian Gulf War' or just 'Gulf War' on August 2nd that lasted till February 1991; the was between Kuwait (Saddam Hussein) and Iraq along with 30 other nations around the world. (USA was a major contributor until Iraq started creeping out the human rights officials.)

Also great news during that year; Nelson Mandela was released from prison on February 11th. Which was a world celebrated event as far as I know. I wasn't there so I'm not sure.

And since I'm an astronomy fan I'll also include about the Hubble Telescope! Which had it's first launch on April 24th! Two days after my birthday!! Yay!! But of course it had an error so had to have a servicing mission again in 1993.

Heard of the Grunge? It became the massively popular fashion in that time after the 80's started dying out. When dressing in grunge fashion you wear flannel shirts and other typical outdoor clothing, often from the thrift shops.

But since the 80s fashion still existed during that time seeing people dressed in neon or fluorescent colored clothing and spandex tights was common too. Retro styled clothes inspired by the 1920s and 1960s were popular during the start of the 1990s; which included men's cardigan sweaters and colorless polo shirts for girls and women, bell-bottoms and crochet shirts were from the 1960s inspired fashion. And we shouldn't forget about Madonna!! She inspired many women and young girls to dress like her, which she still does.

Anyone wondered about the history of navel piercings? Well belly-button piercings started out in the early 1990s and this led to midriff style shirts which lasted until and throughout 2000s.

Well I guess that's all for 1990. I never knew that Emma Watson(Hermione:Harry Potter) and Kristen Stewart(Bella:Twilight) were born in 1990 and in April too!!! 1990 April was time for greatness!!! And also Sean Kingston was born in 1990; love some of his songs.

There were some significant deaths too I think but I don't recognize any of them. huh..

And most important of all!!! Manga started getting popular in the early 1990s!! It was during this time that Manga, which came in Japanese was translated to English and started being distributed in the western world.

Stress relief and reading manga

Main Entry: man·ga
Pronunciation: \ˈmäŋ-gə\
Function: noun
Etymology: Japanese, comic, cartoon, from man- involuntary, aimless + -ga picture
Date: circa 1951
: a Japanese comic book or graphic novel

When I first read my first manga I was 16 years old and was doing my ordinary level exams with my parents breathing down my back. I started reading it after I how popular it was. Many people have heard of 'Naruto', whether the manga version of it or it's anime version (animation of it) or both of it. In almost every manga or anime website Naruto will on the top of it and I wanted to know what was so big about it. And instantly I was hooked on it.

I guess looking back now I was probably looking for something to occupy my mind other than the huge amount of studies cramped in my mind and my mother who kept nagging at me to study, study and study.

I stayed up almost every night reading the manga and watching the anime of it and within two weeks I had read some 200 chapters of manga and watched one hundred something episodes of it.

And after I finished with Naruto I kept watching other anime and manga, and even today I keep looking for some new manga that will catch my interest because I've read almost every one of them out there. There are some really good ones. Creepy ghost stories like 'Ghost Hunt' or mind boggling stories like 'Death Note' that will keep the reader guessing whether the protagonist will get caught or not.

Reading always kept my mind off things, I had an obsession of reading books since I was younger and now it's focused towards manga. And also after reading them I found an interest in drawing too. There's so much to see in the manga, the techniques, story, drawing technique, the interactions of characters and in some of them, the blasting end of the story.

And now I can understand basic Japanese!!! If I get stranded in Japan by some very weird and impossible accident at least I know how to say that I'm lost. But I probably won't need it since they understand English now. damn..

The microscopic water cup, cardboard food and the funny teddy

My first memories of flying in a plane was when I went to Singapore with my family when I was 12. And since I have a bit of a bad memory all I remember is the train ride of the Sentosa island old artifacts and how dad made us miss the bus for the dolphin show. And suffice to say they are some pretty bad memories. My most recent air plane trip memory, which was two years ago, was when I came to US for a brand new awesome life, which I thought it would be.

My sister had come for the summer and my mom didn't think she needed to come with me when my sister was going too. So I had booked my ticket and after a long long list of things I should and should not do, which had me scared half to death and gripping my ticket and visa like a lifeline, I boarded the emirates plane which would take us to Dubai air port and then there we had to take another plane. And I was so excited too.

The plane ride was exciting. I loved the take off and the rush it gave off, after having a short squabble with my sister for the window seats we agreed to switch when we took the other plane. And we departed at night so my sister couldn't see anything!! One highlight of the trip!

The plane seats were comfy, and I got a funny teddy bear with the Emirates emblem from the air hostess for reasons I cannot fathom since they were given only for kids and I was eighteen tears old! And there was the little handy pack with the sleeping mask and toothbrush. It was fine, and I didn't see anything my sister had complained about when she had told me about the twelve hour plane trip. There was the lovely television with the set of movies (some of which I liked!), and I was tired so I slept.

I woke up when I had something poking on my side which turned out to be my seat neighbor who wanted to go to the toilet; after silently cursing him for waking me from my comfy sleep which I couldn't go back to I turned to the Television to watch 'Independence Day'. After watching it I saw the air hostesses going around with a set of files-type things which she gave to each of the passengers of her own side. I looked to the other side of my seat neighbor to where my sister was and saw her drooling on her blanket, fast asleep; sighing at the utter uselessness of my supposed airplane tour guide I turned back to the television to watch another movie.

After ten to fifteen minutes later the air hostess approached the row I was in and gave me the file type thing which I recognized as a small menu, and turned to wake our sleeping seatmate. I remember that when I read the menu the names sounded really fancy, with both Asian and western food in it. And during that time I was ever ready to abandon the Asian food I was used to and eat the western food; and I had to regret my choice of some sort of weird named food which came in a too small plate with a microscopic (In my opinion) water cup. The food was horrible, I couldn't even finish a third of it when my ever brainy sister piped up and said that it was all I was going to get as a major meal for the rest of the six hours. And after finishing the water, which didn't even count as one gulp, I finished the food and asked for a lager cup of water. And the pretty air hostess said that it the only size of water cups they had!!

Frustrated at the manipulating I had gone through (ignoring my sister who had ordered an Asian dish) and finish the second microscopic glass of water I settled back to sleep through the rest of the flight. And I slept through it and we arrived at Dubai where we had to wait for two hours for our next flight, we explored the Dubai Duty free shops. Both of us had never been to Dubai, my sister had taken the Heathrow airport on both occasions she had traveled to US, and we were amazed by the size of it, and had minor attacks focused on to our wallets when we saw the prices too. But after raiding a chocolate shop, and then after I ran off to a dessert shop I saw (it had such PRETTY cakes!!) and limiting the wallet money for the next airport's Duty Free shop we readied ourselves to the next plane ride.

It was just six hours and this time I chose the Asian rice dish which tasted like the microwavable rice they sometimes have in supermarkets and tastes like a weird mixture of cardboard and salt, I gobbled it up and mourning again at the sight of the microscopic water cup I went to watch a couple of movies to kill time. I watched a total of three movies when the steward announced that we were going to touch down. After experiencing the sort of thrill of the plane speeding we landed on John F.Kennedy Airport.

And there I witnessed what exactly my sister was complaining about long distance flights. We had missed our flight to Kansas city airport and after letting the panic overrun me for minute I let my sister handle all the work (it was my first time to the US) we scheduled another flight to somehow get to Kansas. The problem was we had to have two more stops at Chicago and Cincinnati to get to Kansas. Even though I was thrilled at the motion of more speeding in an airplane, my sister was not. Grumbling that we were going to miss our ride to the university we sat down on the chairs and waited.

After getting to Chicago, and getting sneered at by a guard because I hadn't known to take off my socks at the checking booth, we left to Cincinnati and then to Kansas. And it was three in the morning. And to our greatest relief our ride had stayed behind even though we were an hour late. And our next problem came when my sister's bags had apparently decided to stay behind in the Chicago air port and one of my suitcases had busted open. At that time both of us were tired, hungry and very angry. But our exhaustion of two days of flight had taken a toll on us and we didn't have the energy to squabble. So we dragged my suitcases to the car and getting the word of the nice old gentleman at the flight baggage office that my sister's bags were going to get delivered as soon as they arrived the next day we went off to the new world; or at least I did.

What happens in Yellowstone.. stays in yellowstone... (Part II)

First off I have to tell the readers of my love of dogs. I love almost every type of dogs (with the exception of pugs and bulldogs)and I love petting them and playing with them.

During that summer I saw the most beautiful German Shepard I have ever seen. And it was love at first sight, atleast on my part it was. It had a very pretty shiny coat, and was very tall. And it's owner didn't say anything when I neared it. And I abandoned the coolness of the lovely water bottle and floated towards my doggy love. And then it happened. That, whatever happened afterward, will stay only in Yellowstone.. and my memories...

What happens in Yellowstone.. stays in yellowstone... (Part I)

When I went to Minneapolis last summer to stay with my cousins I never thought that I would actually go out of Minnesota. But I actually enjoyed staying there; I got to see another friend who attended a university in Minnesota and hung out with her in the Mall of America. But then at the start of August my aunt, I was freeloading from, told me that they had planned to go with a few friends and their families to Yellowstone. I was thrilled; Yellowstone is a famous place and I never thought I would get a chance to see it.

So there we went, to see the famous Old faithful; after waiting for a half an hour to see it erupt, and the canyons and all. It was great and I enjoyed it. Until the last day of visiting the park.

After going to see some hot springs we rested for a while in the car and I went to get some water from the shop. And there I was walking while drinking some water from the bottle and enjoying the coolness of it under the scorching sun... when I saw IT!!!!

The injustice of a hybrid math class!!!

I officially hate MML. I started to hate it when it gave me bright red crosses for my answers, which were correct but was apparently in another language. Now I hate it because after telling me to round my numbers to six decimal places (which I did after painstakingly counting the decimals in my answers), it gave me bright red crosses because IT was programmed to count six decimal places as EIGHT. Damn that thing!!

And after another bout of shouting and cursing in different languages, and playing Restaurant City to lower my stress levels (courtesy of MML)I went back to my h/w which were supposed to be handed in at 12. I am a big procrastinator (I learned in from sister today.. after she laughed a lot..) and I always put off my MML homework.. and you can guess why..

So I hope the prof will take this as my rant that is college related.. or not...

And if I have the chance I will hearby change my major so I will not have to take Calc 1 and 2!!!!!! and someone help me if it's with MML I will NOT DO MY HOMEWORK!!!
(and get a F for the course =(.. (if it's Prof.Caples maybe he'll pity me)

My Math Lab and roman numerals

I'm doing trigonometry this semester and lo behold with the book came this little booklet type thingy with a password for the wonderful site of 'My Math Lab' or commonly known for MACC math students as MML. Right now I'm doing the homework assigned by the professor with as much 'enthusiasm' as I can muster.

I'm hungry and bored and too lazy to get up from the chair. I have a history map to complete for the history class and have to read seven books in Iliad for the mythology class.

So here I was switching between doing h/w for MML and playing farmville in facebook when this wonderful problem of identifying quadrants for trig functions came up. And I was halfway through this wonderful problem where the answer was quadrant 3 and I kept pushing the damn number 3 on my keyboard and after doing it twice (You get three chances to get the right answer)I had an inkling of why it was saying my answer was wrong. And then after cursing the poor laptop in two different languages I pushed number 3 again.

And the wonderful MML said, "Your answer is incorrect. You answered '3' when the right answer is 'III'."

And I was (rightfully) very pissed off and started cursing MML in two different languages.. again.

And I WILL tell the professor!!! Just you wait MML!! I will win this war!!

P.S- Since I can't do anything to MML until I talk to the professor, I will hearby stop doing the homework and go back to farmville.

The sidewalk in winter

I wish that the municipal council would give the sidewalk the same attention they would give to the road. When it snows a storm , all the snow in the road gets shoved to the sidewalk. When it rains ice, the sidewalk becomes something you can ice skate on. Yes, it's really really important that the road stays clear but we can't actually walk on the road can we?

And the poor souls who don't have a car and have to walk 30 minutes to get to class have to either stomp through snow or slither their way through to where ever they're going. I'm just really glad I got home safe without breaking any bones.
